Shirley Jean Boehm

March 22, 1938 - July 20, 2021


Shirley Jean BoehmShirley Jean [Cazzell] Boehm, 83 passed away July 19th 2021 after a long battle with Diabetes, Chronic Kidney Disease and several minor strokes.
Shirley was born March 22nd 1938 in Salem Oregon to Ellsworth and Margaretha (Margie) Cazzell. Shirley graduated from North Salem High School in 1956. She attended Willamette University and graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in education in 1964. In June 1965 she met Leonhard Boehm when he came to her parents' orchard to help with harvest. They began dating and were engaged on August 6th of that year. They were married June 19th 1966 at St John Lutheran Church and spent their honeymoon on the islands of Oahu & Maui in Hawaii. 
Shirley was happy to stay home and raise her family. When her daughters were older she went to work part time at Honeybaked Ham in the Salem Center from 1987-2000. She retired the week before her first grandson was born. She enjoyed being a grandmother and spending time with her grandsons and always showed interest in all their accomplishments in school and Scouts. She attended concerts, grade school graduations and Scout Courts of Honor.
She will be remembered for being kind, concerned for others, and strong in her Christian Faith. She will also be remembered for her service in her church where she was a lifelong member and which now continues with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the St. John women’s guild, and the church choir. Shirley also enjoyed attending weekly bible classes and the Older Wiser Lutheran Seniors group as long as she was able.
Shirley was a huge sports fan. Her favorite teams were the Portland Trailblazers, Oregon State Beavers & Salem Keizer Volcanoes. She also enjoyed watching both professional golf on TV and watching NASCAR racing with her daughter. She also enjoyed watching The Pioneer Woman on Food Network and shows on HGTV.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Leonhard. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Ann Cirocco(Joseph); Lori Boehm: Grandsons, Nicholas, Alexander and Benjamin Cirocco all of Salem. Many first and second cousins and her church family.
Graveside services were held August 21st 2021. A memorial service will be held October 23rd 2021 at 11:00am at St John Lutheran Church and School(1350 Court St N.E., Salem OR, 97301) with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers please make donations to  St John Lutheran Church.
