Ronald O. Bartruff

October 23, 1930 - March 11, 2021

Ronald BartruffRonald BartruffRonald Omer Bartruff, 90, of Salem Oregon, passed away on March 11, 2021 due to heart failure.

Ronald was born on October 23, 1930 to John Omer Bartruff and Bertha Margaret Yung in Salem, Oregon. His family resided in the Salem area, where he often visited his grandmother’s farm to play with his young uncle Robert and help with the harvests. Later, his family moved to Vanport, Oregon where he attended Roosevelt High School. He was drafted into the military in 1951 during the Korean War and was a PFC Army supply transport driver in Germany. He spoke fondly of his time there.

After the military, he spent a year living and working in Seattle, after which he moved back to Salem to work for the Marion County Highway Department. He enjoyed working outdoors and operating the heavy equipment. His favorite job was driving the grader. He became a Foreman and retired in 1995. He was proud of his time taking care of the roads around Salem.
Ronald met Georgeann Burghart in Salem and they were married on Feb 11, 1956. They had two children, Kay Lynn and Kirk Patrick. The family lived in the Lake Labish area outside of Salem on a farm owned by Georgeann’s family and spent many happy years there. They moved into “town”, SE Salem, in 1968. Ronald and Georgeann resided there until 2018 when they moved into an assisited living apartment at Marian Estates in Sublimty, Oregon.

Ronald was a devoted and caring husband, father, and grandfather. Quiet in his ways; he was constant and supportive in character. He was quick to smile and to let out a little chuckle. He enjoyed fishing and introduced his children and granddaughter to the sport; spending much of his time untangling our lines. Upon retirement, he and Georgeann enjoyed taking their camper to the Oregon Coast. They also enjoyed gardening, taking day trips around the valley, and attending their granddaughter’s events in Portland.  As Georgeann’s health declined, Ronald looked after her with unwavering love.

Ronald was predeceased by his wife Georgeann Bartruff, sister Celesta LaVaughn Saul and brother Ralph Henry Bartruff. His surviving family members are daughter Kay Lynn (Bruce Southerland) Harris, granddaughter Camille Jean Harris, son Kirk Patrick (Shirley Kay) Bartruff and brother Steve Craig Bartruff.

Ronald is interred next to Georgeann at Willamette Cemetery in Portland, OR

He will be greatly missed.
