Ronald Jorma Leinassar, DMD

June 2, 1961 - October 10, 2018

Ron, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away after his battle with cancer on October 10, 2018 in the arms of his wife listening to their love songs.  Ron is survived by his wife Cyndi Leinassar, sons Josh Leinassar, Matthew Astley, and Connor Astley, daughter-in-law Kayla Matthews, and family Dr. Jeff and Cathy Leinassar, Dr. Scott and Marianne Leinassar, Teri Reed, Richard and Michelle Bopp, Phil and Carol Bopp, mother-in-law ReNae Bopp, and cherished nieces and nephews.
Ron was born in Astoria Oregon to Dr. Jorma and Marillyn Leinassar and grew to become a true coastal boy loving the outdoors. Ron’s family was avid golfers and Ron obtained stardom, much to his embarrassment, during his high school golf career winning golf tournaments, hitting holes-in-one, and leading the Astoria team into multiple state tournaments. Upon graduation from Astoria High, Ron followed in his family’s footsteps and attended Oregon State University where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, graduating with a bachelor of science on June 3, 1984, and ascending to Oregon Health and Sciences University to study dentistry.  Ron was a modest man and didn’t like being called Dr. Leinassar, but he achieved this honor when he graduated from OHSU on June 10, 1988 and was certified by the Oregon Board of Density July 10, 1988.
Dr. L, as he became known, began his dental career in the Navy serving first in Bremerton Washington then at Pearl Harbor Hawaii.  After almost 5 years active service, Lieutenant Leinassar left the Navy and entered civilian life practicing with Permanente Dental Associates.  Ron loved PDA and rose quickly becoming a partner. Ron accepted a Professional Director position managing operations at Kaiser’s Grand Ave. office then transferring to manage the Gresham office.  After meeting and marring his wife Cyndi, Dr. L transferred to the Salem’s Lancaster office where he ended his 30 year dental career spending over 25 years with PDA.
Ron became a father to Joshua on April 15, 1999.  Josh became his world and Ron vowed to show Josh every day and in every way, how much he loved him.  Ron hoped that he could be half the father Ron’s dad was to him and made sure that he told Josh every time they left each other “I love you Pal”.  Ron worked hard as a single father to established traditions with Josh.  The most memorable Thursday pizza nights watching Jack Bauer in the series 24 long past bedtime, then cooking Josh a hot breakfast before sending Josh off to school Friday mornings.  Ron became a father again early in Cyndi’s and Ron’s love affair to Connor and Matthew aka Moose.  The Fab Five, as they dubbed themselves, became an instant family growing in love, friendship, laughter, a lot of teasing, and unforgettable adventures.
Ron took pleasure in being there for his family, traveling to watch all the sporting events, concerts, fishing excursions, family vacations to exotic ports showing the world to the boys, and mostly loving his wife Cyndi.  They were each other’s rock and grew in love more and more each day.  The boys would profess “Not again, guys please!” every time they would catch them kissing in the kitchen, hugging over morning coffee, or snuggling on the couch.
Ron’s Celebration of Life will take place at 2pm Saturday November 10th at Gateway Foursquare Church in Salem located at 525 Idylwood Dr. SE.  Please do not wear black.  A reception for all those in attendance will immediately follow.
To honor Ron and in lieu of flowers, The Fab Five request that donations in the name of Dr. Ron Leinassar be made Oregon Mission of Mercy.  Ron volunteered countless hours helping low-income people with their dental needs with MOM.  He couldn’t believe the need and dedicated himself to supporting this effort in Oregon.  Please make checks payable to DFO, c/o Oregon Mission of Mercy and mail to 8699 SW Sun Place, Wilsonville Or. 97070.
