R. Gale Pool
April 26, 1926 - July 20, 2021
Born in Circleville, Kansas to Ernest & Stella (Barnes) Pool. The youngest of three sons raised in the rural areas of eastern Kansas. The land and agriculture would play a big role in Gale's life. Sadly, his father died when Gale was seven. He served in the US Army as an airfield firefighter during World War 2, stationed on Guam at the end of the war.
Following his discharge he moved his mother to Salem, Oregon to be close to his older brothers, Alvin and Lyle and their families. Here he met his one and only, Barbara Marie Botts. Married on April 2nd, 1950. They were blessed with three children: Dave (Jody), Richard (deceased as an infant), and Sandy (Jim) Nichols, five Grandchildren: Addam (Huynh) Pool, Eryn (Jerrimy) Snook, and Alyn (Craig) DiNitto, Steve Nichols and Greg (Christy) Nichols, and twelve Great Grandchildren: Grace, Stella and Poppy Nichols, Thea, Tevy and Kinsie Snook, Kamryn, Landon, Bennett and Hayden DiNitto, Penelope and Persephone Pool.
Family was very important and he loved and cherished each and every one beyond measure. Among those were nieces and nephew Yvonne Ulmer, Connie Thies, Ernie Pool and their families. All were very special to him.
Gale had various jobs over the years, but his main employment was with Mayflower Farms (now Dairygold) delivering feed and seed to various farms in the Willamette Valley and western Oregon. He felt most comfortable being close to farming and having his own gardens. Retiring in 1981, he and Barbara became Snowbirds traveling to Yuma for the winters. After various adventures, they finally settled back in Salem.
The last 2 1/2 years were spent in skilled/memory care in Newberg, Oregon, where he lived out his final days. Special thanks go to Chehalem Health and Rehab in Newberg, for the wonderful care and love they showed to Gale in his final days.
A graveside service and celebration of life with close family was held on July 29th.
