Marion Brady Embick

October 20, 1925 - June 11, 2018

Marion Brady Embick passed away in Salem, Oregon on June 11, 2018.  Her life began in Baltimore, Maryland, born October 20, 1925 to Dr. Leo Brady and Lucy Jewett Brady. Marion was a twin and one of five daughters.  Her twin, Barbara Burn, died sixteen years ago.  Marion and her four sisters attended Bryn Mawr School and throughout her long life, she never stopped praising the school and its dedicated teachers.

Marion began her college career at Vassar and then at the advice of her eldest sister Lucy, she transferred to the University of Wisconsin, Madison.  She graduated in the class of 1947 and that was where she met her husband, orthopedist Richard Embick.  They moved to Salem, Oregon soon after the completion of his studies in New York City.

Marion waited to pursue a law degree until her four children were in school. She attended part time and received her J.D. degree from Willamette University.  She loved practicing law and saw it as an opportunity to help others. She was a devoted member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and a Board Member of the Salem Library.  She was a passionate birder and member of the Audubon Society, enjoyed gardening, an avid reader and was known for her captivating storytelling.

Marion was truly lucky in love.  In 1997, she married Grant Erwin, Jr., a friend to hers and Richard's from college days.  A couple of years after Grant died in 2012, she moved from her home on Holiday Drive to Capital Manor where she joined many life long Salem friends.

Family was everything to Marion and she imparted a little bit of happiness to all she knew. Keeping family ties throughout her life, Marion joined with her parents, sisters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews every summer at Long Lake just outside of Traverse City, Michigan.

Marion is survived by her son, Ramsey Embick and her daughter, Eleanor Embick, three sisters and seven grandchildren. Her sons Paul and Andrew and daughter Lucy predeceased.

A memorial will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Salem, Oregon on October 22, 2018 11am.  There will be a private family celebration of life on August 7th and her ashes will be interred in the Linwood Cemetery, Long Lake Township, Grand Traverse County, Michigan. Donations to the Audubon Society in lieu of flowers, please.
