Marilyn Yvonne (Hall) Sams

Marilyn Yvonne (Hall) Sams went to be with Jesus on November 22, 2018.
Mom was born July 23, 1932 to George and Lillie Hall in Hastings, Nebraska. She was the second oldest of five children. Then the family moved to Salem in 1941. She attended schools at McKinley, Leslie and graduated from Salem High School in 1950. Went to College at O. C. E. in Monmouth and received her elementary teaching degree. Her first job took her to Portland, where she taught at Parkrose Grade School for three years.
She met James Alvin Sams in Salem on the dance floor at the Crystal Gardens and they were married on December 26, 1954.
Mom was a devoted Wife and eventually a very loving Mother to Sons Douglas and Wesley. While raising her family she was Instructional Teacher at Shangra-La for 25 years, then 9 years spent teaching at Waldo Middle School, finally retiring in 1997.
Mom spent summers with Husband Jim, trucking across North America having fun spending time visiting with family and friends; that was so important to her.

She was very active in the Four Corners Community, Trinity United Methodist Church, Four Corners P. T. A., Cub Scouts with sons, Voting and Election Committees, Avon Representative, C. F. O. (Camps Farthest Out) Music Leader with a beautiful singing voice and she loved playing the piano.
Marilyn is survived by her son Douglas (Tamme); Grandchildren Lea (Kyle); Great Grandson Lincoln Raven, Cole (Kristen); Great Grandchildren Reannyn and Corbyn Sams; Daughter-in-Law Trina; Grandchildren Isaiah and Gracie Sams; Brother Glenn (Carolyn) Hall; Sister-in-Law Barbara Hall; Sister Karen (Harold) Gigstad; many loving Nieces, Nephews and countless Friends. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Brothers Wendell and Gaylord Hall; Son Wesley and Husband Jim.
A special thanks goes out to all the staff at Marian Estates in Sublimity.
A Celebration of Marilyn’s Life will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church 590 Elma Ave SE Salem, Oregon 97317. In lieu of flowers, her wishes for donations were for Women’s Crisis Center, U. G. M., any Oregon Veterans Home or Trinity United Methodist Church.
