Louella Minerva Story

July 8, 1919 - April 4, 2018

Louella Minerva Story of Salem, age 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 4, 2018.  Mrs. Story was born in Shannon City, Iowa, to Ralph and Bertha (Beattie) Henry.  In 1929 the family moved to Oregon, making the trip by car.  Louella married and had three daughters.  She later married Merle Story in Prineville, Oregon, and they had four sons.  Her faith in God was the most important part of her life and sustained her throughout her life.  During their childhood Louella faithfully took her children to Sunday School and church every week.  She was a homemaker and business partner with her husband, operating a dairy in Central Oregon, a motel on the Oregon coast, and a hardware store in Washington.  They enjoyed traveling in their motor home around the United States after retiring; they later settled in Minnesota, then Redmond, Oregon, and finally in Salem, Oregon.  Louella loved to crochet doilies and tat crosses which she generously shared with family and friends.  She made many close friends while living at Lancaster Village in Salem over the past eight years, where she enjoyed making crafts, playing games, and receiving visits from family and friends.  Louella loved her caregivers and considered them members of her family. Survivors include daughters Mary (Larry) Richards of Minnesota; Barbara (Lyle) Milligan of Salem; sons Fred (Lorraine) Story of California; Ken (June) Story of Washington; Alan (Maureen) Story of Aloha; son-in-law Lyle Brandt of Washington; brother, Ted (Elsie) Henry, of McMinnville; sister-in-law, Beverly Dutton, of Damascus; 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle; son, Stanley; daughter, Geraldine/Gerri Brandt; grandson, Gary Richards; and two brothers, Warren and Ed Henry.  There will be a time of sharing good memories of Louella’s life at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem, on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 10:30 am.  Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery on April 17, 2018.  Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Park Church of God in Salem .
