She enjoyed bike riding to the beach, picking blueberries and salmon berries, The Saturday Mickey Mouse Club, climbing Deer Mountain and High School proms.
She came to Salem in 1942 to attend Willamette University. Salem was just a small town then but she embraced it with a love that lasted the rest of her life.

She was married to John Ellis who was also from Ketchikan, Alaska.  He passed away at the age of 48 in 1972. From this union she leaves one daughter, Mary Lorraine Ellis Hughes.
Lorraine was fortunate to make trips to Alaska, the Caribbean, Norway, Eastern Europe, and a trip down the Mississippi River on the American Queen sternwheeler.
Pets were a big part of her life. One special dog was named pal but she really had a preference for cats among them were Bobby, Percival, Kit, Samantha and Amica. Her most recent cat Hazel is being cared for by her daughter.
