June Janet Allen

June 1, 1930 - August 4, 2021

June Janet AllenIt is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our mother, June Janet Allen on August 4, 2021 at the age of 91.

June was born to Hjalmer and Hattie Haugen on June 1, 1930 in Wild Rose, ND. She was one of ten children in the family. Only surviving siblings are Donna and Clarance. The Haugen family moved to Salem when June was 12 years old. She attended West Salem Grade School and Salem High School, graduating in 1948.

June’s noticeable beauty and poise introduced her into modeling, beauty pageants and parades. Being crowned the Cherry Blossom Queen in the late 40’s. She began working at US National Bank, Ladd and Bush branch in downtown Salem; that’s where she caught the eye of the dapper, Gilbert Allen. After several attempts to swoon sweet June, Gilbert finally was granted a date. Their love was immediate and lasted a lifetime; marrying at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in 1954.

June’s love and compassion for others was her focus in life. She always thought of other’s happiness first and foremost. She loved entertaining family and friends, especially around the holidays.

June will be lovingly remembered by her son, Mark, his wife Sue; her daughter Gwen, and husband Brad. Also dearly missed by dozens of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gil in 2017 and adorning son Bradley in 2013.

Mom’s journey through the perils of dementia are finally over. She is joined once again into the arms of her loving husband, son and the Lord Jesus Christ.

A Rosary Service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, August 13th at 9:30am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00am. Reception to follow. Graveside Service at 1:00pm at Belcrest Memorial Park.

I am sorry to read about the loss of your mom, June. My parents, Jim and Bette Bairey, were friends of your folks in their youth. I remember them speaking of Gil and June. I probably met them when I was very young, maybe even seeing them at a reunion. My mom and dad divorced and each remarried. My dad died in 2001 and my mom passed away here in Salem in 2017. Hope they are all reuniting in heaven.
