Joyce Elaine DeRoos Cox Winters
April 10, 1929 - February 28, 2020
Joyce passed away at the age of 90 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Redmond, OR to parents Charles H. and Ruth (Colvin) DeRoos on April 10, 1929.
In her early teens Joyce moved to Salem, OR and attended Salem High School. Shortly after graduation Joyce married William K. Cox, together they had three children, William II (Billie), Stephanie and Kimberly.
Joyce had a few adventures in her life. She was one of the first women solo pilots in Oregon after which Joyce and her husband flew their planes. She enjoyed being a Camp Fire Girl leader for many years for both her daughters. Joyce loved her bowling, belonging to several bowling leagues, she especially loved her “Reno League”. Golf was another sport Joyce learned belonging to the Meadowlawn Women Golf Club. While living in the Spring Valley area of Salem, she was learning to be a Master Gardener, loving flowers and growing vegetables. Joyce was always a great sewer. She sewed clothes for her daughters and knitted and crocheted all her life. She was do happy to join the sewing group at the Senior Center. She enjoyed all the women she sewed with.
Nine year after the death of her first husband, she heard a calling from her Savior Jesus Christ and was baptized into the Mormon faith. Joyce then met and married Arther C. Winters whom she is survived by.
Joyce loved god, her family, especially her grandchildren whom affectionally called her Grammie or Robin as she was Batman’s (a grandson) crime fighting partner. She had a good sense of humor, a good friend to many, a great mom, a strong woman and a wonderful person. She will be missed, always in our hearts.
Survivors include husband Arther Winters; children William K. Cox II (Dawn), Stephanie Sedivy (Jerry), Kimberly Martin (William); grandchildren Phillip Sedivy (Kira), Stuart Sedivy (Amanda), Eric Sedivy, Katie Jacobs (Chris), Jessica Kieso (Jierd), Sonya Steele, Courtney Cox and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband William Cox; sister JoAnnn Bese and one great granddaughter Rylie Ann Sedivy.
At Joyce’s request no services will be held.
