John H. Bement

January 3, 1947 - October 31, 2017

John H Bement, age 70, passed peacefully away on October 31, 2017. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his health struggles and ultimately gave him peace as he now is with his Heavenly Father.
John is survived by his wife, Teena, of Salem Oregon; his son Jason & daughter-in-law Stephanie, of Olympia Washington; his daughter, Mandy of Salem Oregon; granddaughter, Ashley Reed of Olympia Washington; granddaughter, Grace Bement of Salem Oregon; grandson, Jonathon of Salem Oregon. He is preceded in death by his father John Jackson Bement, of Wenatchee, Washington; his mother, Grace B Shatto, of Wenatchee Washington.
John was a son, husband, loving father and most of all he was a grandfather who loved his grandchildren. He played and loved interacting with his grandchildren and they adored him. He loved watching the tricker treaters at Halloween and seeing all the little ones in their customs.
John married Teena February 18,1983 and they have lived together in Salem Oregon since. John was a very social man who was deeply involved with his church family at Capital Park Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed ringing the bell for the Salvation Army during the holiday season. Along with his wife they ran the food bank for Capital Park Wesleyan Church for several years bringing a smiling face and encouraging words to those who visited the food bank.
He loved helping people even if it was with just a kind word. His family and friends will always remember him as a stubborn man who wouldn’t give up even when the task seemed impossible.  John loved watching wrestling and football. He was an avid Seattle Seahawks fan. John enjoyed driving over to the beach to the Tillamook cheese factory and getting his cheese curd fix. You would sometimes find John in the kitchen cooking which was something he enjoyed along with eating what he cooked of course.  John enjoyed the outdoors. He especially loved working in the yard.
A Celebration Of Life is scheduled for November 11, 2017 at 1:00pm at Capital Park Wesleyan Church with a reception potluck to follow at 410 19th St SE, Salem, OR. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John’s life. Donations can be made to in John’s memory.
