Janet Kaye Noyd
October 19, 1938 - March 30, 2019
Janet Kaye Noyd passed away on March 30, 2019 at her home in Salem, Oregon. She was 80 years old.
Kaye was born on October 19, 1938, in Elk Point, South Dakota, on the family farm. Her parents were William and Cleo (Peck) Johnson. Her family moved to the Bay Area of California in 1945 but returned to the family farm ten years later. There Kaye completed her senior year at Akron High School, graduating in 1956. During the summer of 1955 Kaye met Pete Noyd while she was working at a local drive-in. He was a college student from Billings, Montana, home visiting family in Sioux City. They wrote letters throughout Kaye’s senior year of high school and became engaged at Christmas time of 1956, a year and a half after meeting. Kaye worked as a bank teller at Woodbury County Savings Bank until the day of her marriage to Pete on June 8, 1957.
Together they moved to Missoula, Montana, where Pete completed his degree in forestry and Kaye worked as a bank teller for First National Bank. On February 17, 1959, their son Steven was born at St. Patrick’s Hospital. The family moved to Coos Bay, Oregon during the summer of 1960. Daughter Julie joined the family in October of 1961 and the Noyds settled into their family home at 1420 Anderson Avenue the spring of 1964. They lived there until 1981.
During those years Kaye was a devoted and diligent homemaker, mother and wife. She was an accomplished seamstress, a superb cook and an expert shopper. The Free Methodist Church was the center of her family’s faith life and the place where many enduring, lifelong friendships were born. Kaye participated in the Christian Women’s Club and Women’s Aglow Bible Study. Growing in her faith, studying Holy Scripture and following Jesus in this life meant everything to her.
The summer of 1981 brought significant change with a move back to Montana, this time to Kalispell. For the next fourteen years Kaye worked at Norwest Bank and Herberger’s department store. These were joyful years when grandchildren were born, beginning with Melissa in 1985 and ending with Anna in 1994. Retirement finally brought Kaye and Pete back to Oregon. They lived in South Salem to be nearer to their children and grandchildren and enjoyed attending the many school and athletic events in which they participated.
Kaye was preceded in death by her husband Pete, her brother Bill Johnson, and her parents.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Steve and Nancy Noyd and Julie and Mark Rediske; her grandchildren, Melissa and Kevin Watts, David and Christy Noyd, Michael and Ashley Noyd, Allie and Scott Day and Anna Rediske; step-granchildren Kristina McDonnell, Sam Rediske and Lydia Rediske; and her great-grandchildren Adeline, Charles, Alden, Katherine and step great-grandson Wix.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 PM on June 8, 2019, at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Home in Salem, Oregon.
