James R. Sneed
April 17, 1943 - October 5, 2018
Jim was born in Salem, OR on April 17, 1943 to Richard and Bessie Sneed. On October 20, 1964, Jim enlisted in the Air Force and proudly served two hitches and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in Thailand, Okinawa, and South Korea loading munitions onto fighter bombers in the war with Vietnam. After completing his service, Jim was a fourth generation well driller going into business with his father.
Jim rode Harleys all his life, starting in high school. He truly loved the 4th of July when he would fire his miniature cannon. Jim and his friends took many trips into the mountains where they would target shoot. They floated Thomas Creek and the North Santiam River in rubber rafts and also used his aluminum boat on the Alsea and the Willamette Rivers. Jim loved to fly fish! Jim regularly visited his friends at the Scoreboard. He was particularly fond of Taco Tuesday.
Jim passed away late Friday night, October 5, 2018. He had been living at Brookdale, a care facility in Stayton, the last few months of his life after suffering a major fall. He is survived by his sister, Joan Dawson who lives in North Carolina and his numerous and humorous good friends. He will be greatly missed by all!
There will be a gathering at the Scoreboard 2290 Front St., NE Salem for a celebration of his life on October 20, 2018 starting at 3:00 pm.
