Jack Corbett

April 4, 1939 - September 25, 2021


Jack  CorbettJack Corbett, local cartoonist, passed away on September 23rd at his home in Salem. He was born on April 4, 1939 in Grand Forks, N. Dakota. He was 4 when he moved to Salem. He graduated from South Salem High School, attended OCE, graduated from U of O and was an avid DUCKS fan. He served in the US Army in Japan. In recent years, his favorite pastime was playing poker.
 
He is survived by sisters  Beverly Johnson, Anderson, California; Diane Corbett, Portland, and a brother, Irv Corbett, Sun City West, Arizona; a daughter, Kathy Robinson, 3 grandchildren and  many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many lifelong friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan S. Corbett and Elda M. Corbett, a sister, Marilyn Schemmel, a brother, Marvin Corbett and a grandson, Harry Burroughs.
 
Jack was a cartoonist whose work was published in many national publications and was enjoyed all around the world.  He was active in environmental issues, crushing cans before tossing them, long before it was the popular thing to do. He was President of the Salem Audubon Society and was an avid bird watcher. Jack was a library patron and a voracious reader.
 
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the Spring.
 
He was a great friend, brother, dad and grandfather who will be missed and remembered.
