Ronald A. Martinson

March 22, 1935 - June 14, 2019

Ron was born in Inavale, Nebraska. Son of John and Berniece Martinson. The Martinson’s moved from Nebraska to Oregon in 1937. Ron was raised in the Molalla area and attended Molalla Union High School where he was the Senior Class President, graduating in 1953. Ron attended Oregon State before beginning a career with the State of Oregon Highway Department where he worked in the Bridge Engineering office.

While working for the State, Ron met Karen Shaw who was also working there in the Secretarial pool.

Ron and Karen were married August 2nd, 1958 and began their life together in Salem. In June, 1964 Ron made a career change that became his life work of building many homes, offices and apartments in the greater Salem area. His company was known as “Selective Homes”.

Ron always loved owning and working on antique and classic cars and you could find him working in his shop in the evenings and on weekends.

More than anything, Ron loved his family and his dogs. He also proudly served in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

Ron is survived by his wife Karen who he shared almost 61 years of marriage. 3 Sons and their Spouses, Tracy (Julie), Todd (Shawna) and Tim (Laura) as well as 3 Grandchildren. Brittney (Jake) O’Neal, Ross (Allison) Martinson and Joshua Martinson. The family now includes 3 Great Grandchildren. Ron is also survived by his older sister, Coleen Greco of Beaverton, Oregon.

“God saw that he was getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around him and whispered “Come with Me.”

With tearful eyes we watched him suffer and saw him fade away.

Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay.

A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands now rest.”

Family and friends are invited to share in a Celebration of Life for Ron on Sunday, June 30th from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Salem First Church of the Nazarene. 1550 Market Street N.E. Salem, Oregon 97301.
