Stanley Walter Jones
December 6, 1928 - July 17, 2018
Stanley Walter Jones passed away in Salem on July 17 at the age of 89. He was born on December 6, 1928 and raised in the Mission Bottom-Brooks area. Stanley enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a social butterfly and loved to visit with people. He never met a stranger, only friends he didn’t know yet. Stanley was a member of Sons of Labish, the Independence Elks and had been volunteer firefighter with Monmouth Fire Department. He worked as an edgerman at Mt. Fir Lumber Company in Independence for over 39 years.
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife Joan, daughter Lonore, brothers Paul Jr. and Evans, sister Aminta Hawley and grandson Eric Jones. He is survived by son Robert W. (Darla) Jones, daughters Dian (Mark) Forster, Barbara (Manfred Smetana) Boggs and Cathy (Rich Foster) Jones-Foster; companion Betty Kostenborder, brother Daryl Jones, sisters Bertha Mullins and Sally Jo (Al) Bechtold; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Stanley had been the recipient of over 40 units of blood during transfusions in the last year and the family wishes that friends and family “pay it back” by donating blood to the American Red Cross in his name. Those who wish may also make contributions to the Salem Hospital Foundation or the Inspiration Garden at Mountain Fir Park.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, August 5 at Brooks Pioneer Memorial Cemetery immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at The Nook Family Park which is approximately the 10000 block of 72nd Ave. NE in Brooks, OR 97305.
