Donald A. Brant

August 29, 1932 - June 10, 2018


Donald Albert Brant age 85 was born on August 29, 1932 to Albert and Gertrude Brant in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He was the third of six children. The family moved to Salem, Oregon in 1933. He graduated from Salem High School in 1951.
 
Don was surrounded by his family as he peacefully went home to be with his Lord on 6/10/18 at 6:10 pm. He is survived by the love of his life whom he married 65 years ago, Janet (Barnwell). His daughters: Debbie Bond (Steven), Kathy Brant (Lisa Cicero) and Cindy Boyer (Bob). Five grandchildren; Ben Bond (Sarah), Nicole Merwin (Caleb), Lexi Ochoa (Danny), Lacey Cannon (Paul), Luke Boyer (Kim Hoppe). Six great grandchildren: Greyson and Indigo Merwin, Xavier and Miles Ochoa, Ashland and Levi Cannon.
 
Don began working for the Oregon State Highway Department just out of High school. He also served in the Navy in Kodiak Alaska and then returned to the Highway Department and retired a Bridge supervisor after working for 35 years. He also taught welding at Chemeketa Community College. He then went to work part time at Industrial Welding where he worked until he suffered from a stroke 4 1/2 years ago.
 
Don loved fishing, hunting, racing trucks and jeeps. He loved working in his yard, making many different fun and whimsical creations and playing with his grandkids and great grandkids. He will be remembered for his loving, kind heart and his love for Jesus, Whom he accepted as his Lord and Savior in 1991.
 
A celebration of life for Don will be on July 7, 2018 at Court Street Christian Church at 10am.
Memorial donations may be made to Lancaster Village or Willamette Valley Hospice. We want to thank both for their loving care and support.
 
A private interment will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on June 20, 2018.  Assisting is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
