Evin Daley

July 10, 1912 - May 26, 2018

Evin Daley began his life on July 10, 1912 at his parent’s prairie home between Hugh and Rocky Ford, Colorado.  He was the 11th child of Leroy and Mary Jane Daley’s family of 13 children.  As a child, he moved with his family to Salem, Oregon, where he began school, eventually graduating from Salem High.  It was in Salem that he met and married the love of his life, Faye Garoutte. Together they raised a family of five children and enjoyed their love for 65 years of marriage.
Evin worked many jobs in his life from tending the hop fields of south Salem, to driving log truck, building amusement park rides, building commercial trucks for Ira Jorgenson, teaching welding, and as a maintenance engineer for Damasch Hospital.
Evin had a large tool collection: some he bought, some he was given, and some he had made himself when he couldn’t find the right one to do the job. There weren’t many things that Evin couldn’t fix and most of those things he would improve upon.
Evin had a quick wit and loved to tell stories or a joke.  He had a friendly smile, a mischievous twinkle in his eye, and the uncanny knack of quieting a crying baby even when it wasn’t his own.
He loved to garden, watch backyard birds, hunt, fish, collect coins, and stare at the night sky.  On May 26, 2018, six weeks shy of his 106th birthday, Evin joined his three angels who predeceased him; his wife, Faye Daley, and daughters Barbara Crawley and Joanne Hofstetter. He leaves daughters Joyce Fear, Linda Evin, and son Bud Daley, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Sharon Cook of Apple Blossom Manor and Serenity Hospice for their loving care and support. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Belcrest Memorial Park.
