John M. Currie, MD

August 9, 1936 - May 17, 2018

John Morgan Currie was born to Robert Lee and Dorothy Currie on August 9, 1936, in Houston, Texas, and passed away on May 17, 2018.  He grew up in Arizona and Oklahoma, but always wanted to live where he could hear the wind through the fir trees, so Oregon was his choice.
After graduating from University of Oklahoma Medical School in 1963, he served as a Naval officer in Aviation Medicine, and was designated a Naval Flight Surgeon in 1965.  Dr. Currie practiced Dermatology in Salem for 46 wonderful years.  He continued his Military Service in the Army National Guard in Salem from 1972 until 2000.

Always kind and caring to others, John was passionate about following the Holy Spirit so that his life would give God glory.

John is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Jeffrey Currie of NYC, Jennifer Currie of Phoenix, AZ, Melinda Rumage (Steve) of Rockaway Beach, OR, and Todd Wilson (Amy) of Seattle; eight grandchildren, Shepherd, Carsen, and Ewan Currie, Sean, Seth, and Kara Rumage, Will and Gabby Wilson; and his sister Dorothy of Reedley, CA.

Memorial service will be on Saturday, June 2, 2018, 11:00 AM at Salem Evangelical Church, 455 Locust St., NE.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in John's memory to The Salem Leadership Foundation  (PO Box 7384, Salem, OR 97303) or to the Salvation Army (1865 Bill Frey Dr. NE, Salem, OR 97301).  Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.

Dr. Currie was my dermatologist for many years.  I also attended BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) with him for many years.  He was a truly caring and compassionate man who lived out his faith.  A Bible was always on his desk and he genuinely lived by its principles every day.  He will truly be missed--he has fought the good fight, finished the course and kept the faith and has now entered into his eternal reward.

Them were the days, m'friend!

You prayed with us often for the day that we may once again be together in our Father’s house.  Be patient Papa, we’ll all be there in His time.  Keep watch over us until then.  We love you.

John, thanks for the friendship and advice thru the years as both my Dermatologist and Flight Surgeon and to reconnect later at BSF.  I will always remember the time you took me up in your Sterman and always being called "One of My Boys".  Our sincere condolences to Carol and family, see you in Heaven Doc.
