December 11, 1927 - April 21, 2018
Edith Lyons, 90, passed away of age related natural causes at Lancaster Village Assisted Living April 21, 2018.
Edith was born December 11, 1927 in Norton, Virginia the 3rd child of Polie and Virginia Hinkle. She worked in Norton at a men's store and married Douglas C. Lyons August 9, 1951. Edith and Doug joined other family members and friends and traveled to Butte, Montana that same year for Doug to work in the copper mines. During their stay of 5 years in Butte, they had 3 children, Joyce, Paul and Donna. Between 1958 and 1969, they left Butte and moved to Kirkland, Washington, Portland and then to Hillsboro where they stayed for 6 years. In 1969 they moved to Battle Ground, Washington where they bought a small grocery store, and in 1971 a final move to Salem, Oregon where they lived for over 40 years.
Edith was a stay at home mom when the kids were young. After moving to Salem, she went back to school and received her GED and continued her education at Chemeketa Community College. Edith worked for the 7 Up company sampling the soft drink in grocery stores, in the strawberry fields with Doug and at A to Z Rental. Edith was a Sunday school teacher at the South Salem Nazarene Church. She had a great many friends and was a great help to those who needed a ride to church or visited those who were sick or lonely. She had a sweet Southern way about her and had many friends of all ages.
Doug passed away in 2006 and Edith continued to live on her own until her health made it necessary for her to move to an assisted living facility where she lived until her passing.
Edith is predeceased by her grandson Cory Cain and her husband Doug. She is survived by her daughter Joyce Eklund (Mark); son, Paul Lyons (Patti); daughter, Donna Watkins (Kelvin), 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
