Michael Dennis Lauritsen Sr. "Big Mike"

May 20, 1948 - April 8, 2018

Michael Dennis Lauritsen Sr., 69, died unexpectedly Sunday night, April 8, 2018.
He was born May 20, 1948, in Salem, Oregon, the son of Clarence and Lillian Lauritsen. After his father died in 1950, the family moved to Burbank, California where his mother married Cliffard Lauritsen in 1956.  They lived in Burbank until 1960 when the family returned to Salem, Oregon.
He graduated from North Salem High School in 1966 and attended Salem Tech, earning an Associate’s Degree in Real Estate. After working for the Marion County Assessor's office in Salem, Oregon for 2 years, he completed a course from Norman Webb and achieved his Oregon State Realtor's License, the youngest realtor in the state at the time.
Michael and Connie Lauritsen, partners in marriage and business, were married September 4, 1971 in Reno, Nevada. Over the past 47 years he owned and operated a real estate company, a construction company, automotive businesses, a tavern and was an active seller on E-Bay, the ultimate entrepreneur. He knew and helped so many people over the years and was always available when anyone needed an extra hand.
Survivors include his wife Connie, their son Michael Jr, and his wife, Cynthia with their two daughters Elizabeth and Penelope, of Salem. His brother, Donald Lauritsen of Salem and his two sons; Douglas wife Crystal Lauritsen of Happy Valley and Eric Lauritsen of Crested Butte, Colorado. Along with his extended family of sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws and nieces and nephews scattered all over the country. He also left many friends whom he considered to be his brothers and sisters, too numerous to name.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday April 30, 2018 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem. Private interment will be later at Belcrest Memorial Park.

I'm preparing to attend "Big Mike's" service and remembering things like the time we all piled into Mike and Connie's motorhome and went to Stayton for one of the best New Year's Eve celebrations ever;  I remember the Super Bowl Parties and the friends we made in that awesome "barn", the many times Mike would drop by and visit, both before Larry passed away and after.  I so appreciated him taking the time to visit me and my mother, reminiscing all of our favorite stories of Larry.  I remember his upbeat personality and that beautiful big smile and those impossibly blue twinkly eyes even when he was not feeling well.  I will miss you Mike.  I hope you and Larry are at a pool table somewhere up there.
