Margaret "Avis" Kinkaid, 85, passed away March 18, 2018 at The Sweet Bye N Bye nursing home peacefully with many of her family at her side due to complications from dementia.

Avis was born in Davidson, Saskatchewan, Canada April 20, 1932 to Percy Lloyd and Mary Margaret (Frazier) Dezotell. At two years of age the family moved to Merced CA for employment. Then back to Canada. At four years of age the family moved permanently to Merced CA for employment. Avis graduated from Merced Union High School in 1950. January 1951 Avis followed her family to Salem, Oregon. School year 1951-52 she attended NW Christian College (NCC) in Eugene, Oregon. She then became employed as a bookkeeper for Salem Title Company.

Avis became a member of First Christian Church Salem, Oregon where she met her future husband Jim Kinkaid. They married in June 1954. They moved to Corvallis, Oregon for Jim to finish his last years of college. Avis worked for a bank in Corvallis to help support Jim through college (PHTS - put husband through school). Jim received an officers commission through the ROTC program and Avis followed him for the next three years as he was stationed in Houston, Texas and Biloxi, Mississippi in the Air Force. They sold the dairy farm in 1984 and moved to a farm in the Brooks, Lake Labish area raising onions. The last few years Avis was a bookkeeper for Jackson's Auto Body Shop. Shortly after she retired Jim also retired and the onion farm was sold. Upon retirement they bought a two acre place in east Salem, Jim did not want to live in town.

A travel trailer was purchased after retirement and spent many days and years traveling the United States and Canada. All 50 states plus five Canadian provinces.

Avis was active in many activities in her church, Polk County Dairy Women and Oregon Dairy Women.

Two daughters were born to this marriage, Debra Diane and Linda Ruth.
