Fred Thomas Hargand passed away March 11, 2018 due to complications from diabetes. Fred was born in Myrtle Point, Oregon to Fred and Joyce Hargand. The youngest of four children, Fred spent most his life in Salem where he took full advantage of living in the Pacific Northwest; fishing, hiking, and camping with his parents, siblings, and friends. Fred eventually married, had children of his own, and raised them with the same appreciation of the out of doors. Though briefly following in the footsteps of his parents by becoming a teacher, Fred discovered his calling to the sheet metal trade where he eventually retired. Fred had other interests as well, his bowling league, photography, working on home projects, but Fred’s true passion was engaging in conversation with others. There were no strangers in Fred’s world, only people he’d yet to chat with or offer a helping hand. He was a good friend to all and a kind soul that left us way too early. Fred is survived by his children Sarah, Maria, and Rachael and four grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will occur in the summer.
