December 2, 1934 - January 28, 2018

Jean D Jans - Wife, Mother, Teacher, Grandmother, Baba- passed away peacefully in Salem Hospital on January 28, 2018, at the age of 83. Jean was born in Minneapolis Minnesota to John and Olga Olsvig and was their youngest child. She was the first in her family to attend and graduate from a University. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Minnesota.

She started her teaching career in Minnesota. In May 1962 she married a fellow teacher Robin Jans, while teaching in Ketchikan Alaska. They moved to California, where her teaching career continued and both of their daughters were born. In 1970 Jean and her family moved to Salem, Oregon.

Jean spent 20 years teaching in Oregon, first at Parkersville School near Brooks Oregon and later Ninety-One School in Hubbard Oregon. Her teaching career spanned over 30 years.

After retirement, Jean and Robin enjoyed traveling on multiple trips to Europe, and throughout the United States. Due to poor health, she spent the last 7 years of her life living in assisted care at Farmington Square Salem. She was a kind, generous and compassionate person and will be deeply missed by both her family and those who cared for her.

Jean is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robin, daughters Susan Alderson (Greg) and JoAnne Spink (David) and her three wonderful grandsons. Jean is also survived by her brother Dale Tollerud (Alice).

A memorial service will be held at 11 am Monday February 19th, 2018 at Virgil T. Golden Services.
