Marion Albrecht, 88, died after a short illness on Saturday, October 7, 2017, in Salem Hospital in Salem, Oregon.
Marion was born on May 26, 1929, in Mawer, Saskatchewan, where she lived, went to school and worked until moving to Portland, Oregon in 1950. She met her future husband, Edward Albrecht on a blind date. Two weeks later, they were engaged and Marion was on a train headed for Atkinson, Nebraska and the Albrecht family farm.
Marion and Ed were married in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atkinson, Nebraska on April 10, 1951.
Marion enjoyed life on the farm until Ed was drafted for service in the Korean war in 1952. Desiring to be closer to him, she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and then Colorado Springs, Colorado.
After Ed was discharged from the service, he and Marion moved back to the family farm where their son Mark was born in 1955. The family then moved to Oregon where Ed worked in the forest products industry until his father unexpectedly died and Ed, Marion and Mark returned to run the farm for his mother. Daughter Marsha was born in 1957. In 1960, the family returned to Oregon.
In Portland, Oregon, Marion worked many years for Kienows Food Stores, retiring in 1993.
Ed and Marion moved to Newberg, Oregon for their retirement. Ed died in 1999 and Marion then moved to Salem, Oregon to be close to her daughter.
Marion was an avid game player and particularly loved Mexican Train and Bingo. She was an excellent cook and specialized in German dishes she learned from her mother-in-law. She was also an expert baker, known widely for her delicious cinnamon rolls and Canadian style dessert “squares". Due to her regular crossword habit, few in the family would play Scrabble with her. She was a true “people person” and liked nothing better than conversation and meeting new friends. Family was everything to Marion and her greatest joy was being surrounded by them.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church since 1950 and enjoyed church activities and volunteering.
Marion is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Mark and Kristin Albrecht of Keaau, Hawaii, daughter and son-in-law Marsha Petrie and Don Schiller, of Lyons, Oregon, grandsons Dylan Petrie of Salem, Oregon, Zachary Albrecht of Hilo, Hawaii, grandson and wife Nathaniel Albrecht and Heather Lee of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and great grandson Ed Wyatt Albrecht of Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
