Marvell L. (Galbraith) Melicharek

January 18, 1922 - September 25, 2017

Marvell Melicharek, 95, passed away peacefully on Sept. 25, 2017, with family and hospice care by her side. She was born in Salem where she lived most of her 95 years, graduating from Salem High School.

Marvell met her husband, Paul Melicharek at a dance during World War II and were married in 1946. They moved to his home town of Muskegon, Michigan where she worked as a secretary. However returned back to Salem because she missed her mother and Oregon. Together they enjoyed exploring the northwest and building their home. She was employed by the State of Oregon then left to raise their daughter and manage the household.  Marvell and Paul were married 43 years until he passed in 1989.  She was a devoted daughter to her mother and friend, Martha Moffenbier.

Marvell enjoyed reading, going for walks with her friends, movies, poking around in antique shops and enjoying her pets. Her favorite thing to do was to travel and go on day trips.  Whether it was a trip to Yellowstone, Mt. Rainier, Central Oregon or a day of shopping, she was delighted. She loved the Oregon coast, agate hunting and whale watching and was fortunate to spot whales often.

Marvell is survived by her daughter Kathy Melicharek Gould and husband Randy Gould. Marvell was a fun and kind woman and will be deeply missed.

We wish to thank the caring staff at Redwood Heights Assisted Living and Willamette Valley Hospice.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Willamette Valley Humane Society https://whs4pets.org/  or Willamette Valley Hospice http://www.wvh.org/  .

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday October 2nd at City View Cemetery (390 Hoyt St. S.) in Salem.
