DonaLee Bolin

March 6, 1933 - June 20, 2017

Salem – DonaLee Bolin (nèe Bennett), age 84, died peacefully June 20, 2017, surrounded by loved ones.
DonaLee was born March 6, 1933, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Don and Nellie Louisa Bennett. When DonaLee was a baby, the family moved to southern California. Later, when DonaLee was a pre-teen, she moved to Oregon, with her mom and brother, Wayne Preston Warren, to be closer to family.
It was in high school in Springfield where DonaLee met her future husband, Darald Edison Bolin. The two were married on January 14, 1951, in a traditional, older home with a spiral staircase in Marcola, Oregon. They went to San Francisco for their honeymoon.
Darald gave DonaLee roses on nearly every wedding anniversary over their 66 years of marriage. DonaLee always lovingly supported her husband—from when he nearly broke his neck in basic training; through his eventual recovery; during his years pursuing an education in Chiropractic; and throughout his 51 years as a Chiropractic doctor in Salem, Oregon. DonaLee also managed the business affairs of Darald’s practice. As a final gesture of commitment and love for her husband, DonaLee cared for Darald during his long battle with Alzheimer’s disease until he ultimately succumbed to it in February of this year.
DonaLee enjoyed traveling and taking cruises with Darald throughout the world. They visited five continents, fifty states, Canada and Mexico. Their favorite destination was Maui, Hawaii, where they vacationed annually for nineteen years until they got their last motorhome and decided to stick to driving around the continental U.S.
DonaLee loved golfing, piloting airplanes, playing bridge, watching birds, walking with friends, reading her horoscope, and knitting. She also loved Yorkshire Terriers, always having one as her constant companion at home and on errands. She’ll be remembered for her vivacity of spirit; gift of gab; openness to new people and situations; fierce protection of her loved ones; owning a concealed weapons permit; and her immaculately manicured pink fingernails and perfectly pedicured pink toenails.
DonaLee is survived by her two children Delisa Baker and husband John of Woodburn, Oregon, and Keller Bolin and husband Mike Crews of Palm Springs, California; grandson Darren and wife Lucy of Mount Angel, Oregon; and great-grandchildren Oliver, Perpetua, and Natalie. She was preceded in death by her husband Darald and grandson Jason.
DonaLee’s family would like to thank family friends Donna Roulier, Sam Willits, and Scott Bogart for all of their help, support and comfort.
A Memorial service was held on June 29th at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem, Oregon.
If you wish to make a donation, please direct it to the Edward F. Tokarski Home, operated by Willamette Valley Hospice of Salem, Oregon.
