Scarlet J. Spradling
March 13, 1948 - June 15, 2017
Scarlet Jean Spradling passed away peacefully in her home early Thursday morning. Born March 13, 1948 to Marjorie Irene & Harold Diveer Jones in Portland, OR. Scarlet will be missed deeply by all the hearts she touched.
Scarlet grew up in the West Salem area and after graduating from South Salem High School, she married the love of her life, Lester Louis Spradling on December 27, 1966. She and Les’ one and only child, Terry Louis Spradling was born 1968. Terry was the other love of Scarlet’s life.
Scarlet worked in retail for many years then helped her mother, Marjorie and grandmother, Blanche Snyder in a house cleaning service. She often spoke of her last working years as she remembered them fondly. She and Lester owned a several auto body shops, most famous being Scott’s Auto Body. Scarlet served as the secretary/bookkeeper for Scott’s, where several family members also helped maintain this shop. Scarlet worked right along with Les, detailing cars and taking them back and forth from auctions. Several of her and Les’ closest friends were made during those years and much time was spent amongst them.
Scarlet had a God given gift she readily shared with many of her closest friends and family – caregiving! She was more than devoted in using her gift and leaves many behind who were recipients of it. She cared for both her mother and dad until their passings, and will have jewels in her crown for her lifetime of selflessness! Scarlet had a huge heart and loved music – concerts, laughter, fishing, gambling, Betty Boop, pigs, pretty clothes, anything that sparkled and spending time with all her friends and family. She was always willing to lend an ear, lend hand or whatever it took to ease a burden or create happiness. She was notorious for giving anything and everything she had – even if she didn’t have it to give.
Scarlet is preceded in death by her mother and father, Marjorie and Harold Jones and husband, Lester L. Spradling. She is survived by her son, Terry L. Spradling; brother, Harold E. Jones, both of Salem, OR; her sister and brother-in-law, Mae and John Hampton of Aumsville, OR; aunt, Helen Runner f Turner, OR as well as numerous cousins and countless friends who loved her.
You left us too quickly, “Piglet”. Thank you for being a precious Mother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. We shall see you again one day in Heaven.
