Beverley T. Knox

November 23, 1932 - May 25, 2017

Beverley Tykeson Knox, 84, of Salem, Oregon, met her Lord on May 25, 2017, after a 10 year challenge with Alzheimer’s Disease. Throughout, she held onto her dignity along with a bit of humor.

Bev was born in Portland, Oregon, on November 23, 1932, to Hillie & Ansel Tykeson. She was raised on a farm on Chehalem Mountain, graduating from Newberg High School and Oregon State. Her life changed at a Gaston, Oregon, dance where she unexpectedly met fellow OSU Beaver, Frank Knox, whom she married on Dec. 26, 1953.

Bev was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She led a life of significance, teaching Montessori school, directing an information and referral center in Texas, and partnering with Frank at a Drug-Suicide hot-line. She embraced an active membership in Salem Alliance Church.

Bev’s talents and interests were legion: from master gardening to gourmet cooking and international hiking; but her most serious devotion was loving her family well.

She will be widely and greatly missed, especially by her husband Frank, and their children Brent (Mary) Knox of MN, and Carol (John) Meyer of CO: a full team of 7 grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

The memory of Bev’s energy and zest for relationship will live on through lifelong best friends; brother, Don Tykeson and his wife, Willie; their children, Ellen, Amy, and Eric, and her grand-nieces and nephews.

The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Capital Manor, particularly the Memory Care team, for their loving care of Bev.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Marion-Polk Food Share at .

A memorial service will be held in the Capital Manor auditorium, 1955 Dallas Hwy NW, Salem, OR 97304, on Friday, June 2, at 2 p.m.
