John Conrad Allen

September 24, 1934 - May 22, 2017

John Conrad Allen, a longtime resident of Salem passed away May 22, 2017 at Salem Hospital, in Salem, Oregon surrounded by family.

John was born in Burley, Idaho to Conrad and Madeline (Rathbone) Allen on Sept 24, 1934.

His early education was in Burley, Idaho and later in Baker, Oregon when the family moved to expand the family ranch in 1942. He attended Baker High School class of 1953. John had cherished memories of farming the Sunnyslope Ranch in Baker Valley with his father and grandfather. Later he owned Allen Appliances and Johns Restaurant also in Baker City.

In 1980, he and his wife Sandy moved to Salem Oregon where he worked as an Agricultural salesman for A. C. Haag Co. He retired in 1988 after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

John was known for his colorful stories and great sense of humor. His children and grandchildren can relate the numerous stories and jokes he would tell with a sly smile and sparkle in his eye even after many years of dealing with a debilitating disease. He had good friends who would come by for almost daily talks where they would discuss the current affairs of the day.

He is survived by Sandra Allen, wife, of Salem, OR. Children, John C. Allen Ill (Kathy) of Waldport, OR, Cathy (Bill) Treadway of Baker City, OR, Cindy (Wes) Morgan of Sumpter, OR, and Charles (Beckie) Allen of Ketchikan, Alaska. Step-children Matthew Geils of Dundee, OR and Wendy Geils of Salem, OR. Sisters, Madeline Dowdy of Salem, Ohio, Pat (Alan) Bork of St. Helens, OR and Brother Thomas (Lynn) Allen of Jacksonville, Florida. He also has 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Susan Pierce. At his request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Future Farmers of America , Oregon State Capitol Foundation  or charity of your choice.
