James S. Kreitzberg
August 29, 1924 - April 14, 2017
Jane Kreitzberg said good-bye to her, “sweet lovable Jim,” husband of 73 years, on April 14, 2017. He was our father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend; he will be missed.
Born in Missoula, Montana, he met Jane in high school and they were married in 1945. He earned his pilot’s license at 15-years-old and served in the Army Air Corps at the end of WWII; flying remained one of his life-long passions. He graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in aeronautical engineering and worked for the Montana Power Co. in Butte, Montana where he and Jane had six children before moving to Salem in 1966. His brilliance as an engineer allowed him to develop Microflect Co., a leader in the telecommunications industry. He co-owned the company with two of his brothers, George and Dick Kreitzberg, until the business was sold in 1995.
In 1995, believing that any problem could be solved by education, he became a co-founder of the Blanchet Catholic School in Salem, Oregon and the success of the school was a proud moment in his life.
With his wife at his side, they shared in the family life of raising six children with all the attendant love, chaos, and bewilderment that accompanies parenthood. Placid Lake, Montana and the family cabin was where he was happiest and he and Jane visited there often. He was funny and easily led into mischievous capers of all sorts.
He is survived by his loving wife, six children and spouses, twelve grandchildren and spouses, and eight great grandchildren, his brother Dick Kreitzberg and sisters-in-law Sharon and Joanna Kreitzberg.
He is preceded in death by his two brothers George and Carl.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Blanchet School scholarship fund: 4373 Market St. NE, Salem, OR 97301 503-391-2639.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 22nd at 11:00 am at St Joseph Catholic Church with a reception following at the church. Internment at a summer date at Seeley Lake Cemetery, Montana. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
