G. Philip Schetky

November 9, 1929 - January 8, 2017


G. Philip Schetky, 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 8, 2017. Phil was born in Portland to Jack and Claire Schetky. He graduated from Washington High School, went on to Oregon State University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Freshman English class changed his life, he met his future wife, Helen Schultz. After graduating, they were married in 1952. Phil joined the family business, Schetky Equipment Corp, later becoming President.
He was active in the Machinery Dealers President 1972-73, ORRA and the Portland Beaver Club.
Phil and Helen were blessed with 4 beautiful, caring daughters, whom he treasured. In 1967 they built the "Mountain Cabin" complete with a SAE Lion front door to be closer to outdoor activities.
Family time was Phil's #1 priority and the cabin became a gathering spot for friends and family. Holidays were extra special at the cabin, especially Christmas and the 4th of July! Upon retiring, Phil and Helen moved to Saddlebrooke, Arizona. They continued their love of the outdoors by walking, biking, gardening and enjoying the warmer weather. After 17 years of fun in the sun, they moved to Salem to enjoy more frequent family time.
Phil leaves behind his wife Helen, daughters Tina Mark Rogers, Joan Don Ebbeson, Diane Greg Poling, Linda Geordie Sze, grandchildren Kristin Curt Caldwell, Ashley Jake Forshey, Mikayla and Bryan Rogers, Haley and Tara Poling, Maui and Kiki Sze, great-grandchildren, Tayler, Mylee and Josiah Caldwell and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brother, John Schetky.
A Celebration of Life will be held March 11 th at 2pm at Golden's Funeral Service 605 Commerical St SE, Salem, OR 97301. The family suggests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to Willamette Valley Hospice, 1015 3rd St NW, Salem, OR 97304.
