Glenda Lea Crews Onaga
October 3, 1938 - February 5, 2017
Salem – Glenda Lea Crews was born Oct. 3, 1938, in Auburn, Nebraska, daughter of Glen and Violet Crews. She was married and lived in Kodiak, Alaska where she gave birth to a girl named Kathleen. Later they moved to San Diego where son Rickie was born.
She became a singer and dancer and appeared in a TV Episode of “Hawaiian Eye.” She moved to Hawaii where she traveled to Japan several times as an entertainer traveling with the USO entertaining the troops. She lived in Hawaii over 20 years where she remarried to her present husband George Onaga. This year would have been 50 years of marriage. They moved to Oklahoma to be with her sister Pat Woodrich. Glenda and her husband lived there several years and then moved to Oregon to be with her daughter and son.
They opened and ran several Adult Foster Care Homes, two in Salem and then later moved to Newport, Oregon and opened two care homes. They finally moved back to Salem to live. She did volunteer work for the District Attorney. She loved Oregon, the coast reminded her of her true love Hawaii. We miss her beautiful heart and spirit.
Survivors include her husband George, son Rickie Sibbitt and daughter Kathleen Sherriffs, brother John Crews, niece Lindsy Crews and grand nieces Kayliegh, Ella and Zoe Baumgart.
Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to the Salvation Army.
Celebration of Life service will be held 3:00 PM,Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
