Dean Edward Hittle

January 30, 1931 - January 5, 2017

Dean Edward Hittle was born in rural Monona County, Iowa, where he attended school.  He was raised on the family farm and helped his father.  He served in the Korean Conflict as communications technician.  After returning home he met his wife of 62 years Julia Arndt.  They moved to Oregon in 1955.  He began his career as a cement mason with Stanley Fagg and later was employed by Henry and David Moon.  He retired in 1990 after 30 years.  Dean enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping in the great outdoors of Oregon, and golfing.  He was an avid gardener raising vegetables and sharing the extras with the neighbors.  He tinkered in the shop making unusual items and giving them away.  In retirement he looked forward to spending winters in Arizona.  Dean was active in the Salem Elks Lodge #336.  He is survived by his wife Julia Hittle; daughter Teresa Rick Emmons and son Richard Rhonda Hittle; grandchildren Wesley Emmons, Ashleigh Nicholas III Armenakis and Travis Hittle Samantha Woolard; great grandchildren Nicholas Armenakis IV and Maddison Allen; brothers Gary and Fred, and sister Linda Roberts.  He was preceded in death by his parents Al and Ida, two infant brothers and his twin brother Don.  At his request no services will be held.  Private interment at Belcrest Memorial Park will be held at a later date.  Charitable contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

We were neighbors in the 70's and I remember Dean and Julie fondly as hard working, pleasant, and energetic.  Sorry for your loss.
