John Earl Hunt
February 12, 1929 - December 15, 2016
John Earl Hunt, 87, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 15th, surrounded by his family.
John was a man of courage, strength and deep faith.
Born in Brown’s Valley, Minnesota to Earl and Laura (Felling) Hunt, he was the youngest of five boys. During grade school John’s family moved out west, eventually purchasing a home in Portland, Oregon. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, John attended Multnomah College where he met and fell in love with Beverly Jean Dale. They were married in 1952. A month later, he was called to serve in the Army.
John received his masters degree from University of Oregon. His career included teaching, working for Oregon DMV, and as a Systems Analyst for the Department of Transportation.
John was an avid history buff and enjoyed traveling, golfing, painting, gardening, writing, and spending time with his family (especially his grandsons). He was also active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, and his daughters, Sandra Clouser (Bruce) and Janis Wurgler (Jon), and his seven grandchildren, Josh (Rachel) and Brett Clouser, Scott, Erik (Katie) and David Wurgler, and brothers, Ralph and Vernon. He was preceded in death by his brothers Morris and Bob.
Memorial service is Saturday, January 7th at 1:00 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church building fund www.salemwestpres.org
