Melvin E. Bitikofer

Mel passed away unexpectedly on Sunday 12-11-16. Mel was born in McPherson, Kansas. He moved to Oregon in 1941.
Mel married Sarah Gerber in 1966 and celebrated 50 years of marriage this June.
He is survived by two children; daughter, Diane, Salem, Oregon

He was the second of six brothers and sisters.

Mel graduated from Western Mennonite high school. He was employed by Bernard Showwalter as a mason. In the late 70’s, Mel opened his own store in West Salem and sold heating stoves. Later he opened a second store in Lincoln City. He enjoyed working with stoves and fixing stoves until his retirement in 2010.
Mel had a love for the ocean and enjoyed beach combing. He was active in his church. He had a great sense of humor and had several jokes for every occasion. He made many friends and was referred to as the energizer bunny.
If you were with Mel, he would have photos, a story, or an antique trinket to show you.
He will be missed dearly.
A memorial service will be held Sunday 12-18-16 at 3pm at Western Mennonite Church-School. 9045 Wallace Rd NW, Salem, Oregon.
