Edith Staples Kelch
December 21, 1919 - November 8, 2016
Edith was born in Beacon, NY, lived in Newburgh, Germantown, Albany NY, Pittsburgh Pa, and Williamsville, NY before moving to Salem, Oregon in 2010.
Edith graduated from the Albany Hospital Licensed Practical Nursing Program,and was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church, Albany, NY. She spent most of her adult life volunteering for many organizations, serving as a Girl Scout leader, Sunday School teacher, Meals on Wheels, The American Red Cross blood drive, and Christ Lutheran Church’s Women’s Association. She was a member of AARP, active with the Albany, NY Chapter, and Young at Heart Senior Citizens. Her many hobbies included playing bridge and pinochle, bowling, square dancing, quilting, and traveling.
Edith was the beloved wife of late Herman H. Kelch for 62 years. She leaves her daughter Gail Kelch Steck Calvin, Salem, Oregon and Katherine Mae Ley late Charles, Pittsburgh, PA. Edith was the proud grandmother of triplet grandchildren, Marcus Kelch Steck Michelle of Newfane, NY; Rachel Kinsman Steck Catherine Faye Hayden, of both Salem and Sisters, OR; and Abigail Kingsley Grow Brian; and great-grand daughters, Kaitlin Kingsley Grow and Sarah Maeve Grow, Mahopac, NY. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Kelch Lasher Jack, Elizaville, NY, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.
Edith was proceeded in death by all her siblings and their spouses, Marguerite Miller Walter, Dorothy Krezmin Joseph, Daniel Staples Helen, Ralph Staples Elizabeth, and Frank Staples Marie.
A memorial service will be held at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, Germantown, NY with burial in Viewmont, Cemetery, Germantown, NY at the convenience of the family. Arrangements in Oregon are with the Virgil T. Golden Funeral Services.
