Jeanne B. Humphreys
August 6, 1925 - November 3, 2016
Long time Salem resident, Jeanne was born in Steubenville, Ohio to Alva E. and Sayde Stout Beckett. Jeanne trained as a cadet nurse at Jameson Memorial hospital, Newcastle, PA. Soon after graduation she moved to Salem where she met and married her late husband Marvin F. Humphreys. They had two children, Beth L. and James A. Humphreys.
Jeanne worked as a nurse at Salem hospitals and several doctor's offices during her career. She was active in the American Lung Association and other health related organizations and causes.
After retirement, Jeanne loved to travel, visiting and hosting friends met on her many trips all over the world. She particularly liked Elderhostel programs and freighter cruises. Jeanne loved Oregon history and volunteered at the Oregon State Capital as a guide. She compiled and edited a history of the founding of the First Congregational Church in Salem, Oregon.
Jeanne is survived by her children, two grandchildren, four nephews, and one niece.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday November 8, 2016 at the First Congregational Church 700 Marion St. NE. Private interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Assisting is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
