Patricia "Pat" Jain Wahl
February 6, 1930 - August 23, 2016
Patricia “Pat” Jain Wahl passed away on August 23, 2016, on a sunny and warm afternoon. Pat was born in Ashland, Oregon, to Andrew Sylvester Hood and Abigail Hood Clapp and later moved to Portland. She spent her teen years in the Sellwood area where she met Donald L. Wahl, who at that time worked at the gas station near her home. Don and Pat quickly fell in love and married. They had three children. They later moved to Salem where they raised their family.
In 1971 Don and Pat moved to 20 acres in South Salem where they built their dream home and planted one of the early wine vineyards in the Willamette Valley. They were both early members of the Oregon Winegrower’s Association.
Pat was also passionate about and a very gifted genealogist who spent several decades researching not only her own family history, but helping as a volunteer at the Oregon State Archives and the LDS library, helping others learn how to research their family histories. She very much enjoyed helping others and seeing their delight when they would stumble onto some previously unknown person or happening in their own lives. She was also active in Marion County politics and State of Oregon politics and worked at the legislature for many years.
Pat was predeceased by her loving husband Don, as well as her loving sons Loren A. Wahl and Douglas L. Wahl. Pat is survived by her loving daughter, Wendy Slonecker Keith; five grandchildren, Mary Catherine Johnson Klaus, Andrea Wise, Scott Schildmeyer, Michael Schildmeyer Katie, and Brad Schildmeyer Erica; four great-grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.
