Margo Ann Sumpter, 75 passed away Tuesday, August 16th at her home in Salem. Born February 25, 1941 in Heyburn, Idaho. She was the daughter of Lund E. and Thelma Bowen Christensen. She grew up in Idaho and received her nursing degree from Weber College in Logan, Utah. She married Jay Calvin Sumpter on July 1, 1963 in the Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in Logan, Utah. The couple traveled extensively while Jay was in the military and settled in Salem in 1984. Margo was a gifted quilter, knitter and crocheter. She could make anything from a simple piece of fabric and thread. She donated many hand-made gifts including quilts, afghans and baby blankets to local hospitals. She will be remembered as a kind and generous person with an infectious laugh.
Preceded in death by her husband, Jay Sumpter who died in 2009 and brother Lyle. She is survived by her children Dawn Sumpter of Salem, Susan Campbell Williams of Salem, Sam Sylvia Sumpter of Salt Lake City, Utah and Matt Sumpter of Salem; 3 grandchildren Jonah, Hannah and Maren; 2 brothers Ellis Christensen of Utah and Kim Christensen of Idaho.
A viewing will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday, August 22nd at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. A graveside service will be 1:00 pm, Tuesday, August 23rd at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
