Dudley "Russ" Lee Russell

March 22, 1940 - August 5, 2016


 Dudley Lee Russell, “Russ”, was born March 22, 1940 in Ventura, California. His parents were Lawton Thomas Russell and Dora Mell Plott. Russ was one of nine siblings; Lawton Thomas, Glen Edwin, Glen Edward, Barbara Ann, Dora Mae, George Paul, Juanita, and Norma Jean.
 
Russ married Christine Ann McLean on April 15, 1961 in Hayward, California. They had three children named John Lawton, Charles Lee, and Ronald Alan. Russ and family lived in California but moved multiple times from Hayward, San Lorenzo, Newark, Lincoln, Hollister, and finally settling in the small town of Galt. The Russells lived in Galt and raised their boys until they graduated from high school. Russ always supported his boys from starting a football league when they were younger, to being the president of the booster club when they were playing sports in high school.
 
During most of Russ’s working life, he was employed in the garage door industry. He started out working for Western Overhead Door, Kinear, Lodi Door, and finally retired from Overhead Door Corporation. Later in life he decided he was bored and became the oldest new hire for the state of Oregon at Coffee Creek Detention Center.
 
The Russells moved from California to Lake Oswego, Oregon in 1988 and later to Salem. Russ, Chris, and their son, John, joined the Elks and supported the BPOE #336 for years including Russ being the Exalted Ruler.
 
After 34 years of marriage, Russ’s first wife Christine passed away from cancer in 1995.
 
Russ passed away in his home early Friday morning, August 5th, 2016.
 
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette L Russell (Carlton); Son and daughter-in-law, Charles Russell and Caroline Geer; Son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Russell and Delia Palomeque; Granddaughters; Candra Russell, Andrea Russell, and Carissa Russell, Grandson; Cameron Russell; Sister and Brother-in-law; Norma Jean Ahlskog (Russell) and Richard Ahlskog; Stepson, Kevin Minahan.
 
A viewing with be available Friday August 12th between 2:00 – 6:00 pm at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, 605 Commercial SE, Salem, OR 97301
A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 13th at 9:30 am, at Cloverdale Cemetery, Turner, OR. Cloverdale Cemetery is located between Turner and Marion, west off of Parrish Gap Road Southeast and on Cloverdale Cemetery Road. The Celebration of life will begin at 11:00 am at the Salem Elks Lodge 336, located at 2336 Turner Road SE, Salem, OR 97302.

I am sorry for the loss of such a great man. He will be very missed. I know I really enjoyed the times I got to spend with him and the family out on our fishing trips. Wish I could have been around more in the last years. I love and will miss you Uncle Dud...
