LaRene J. Farmer
May 29, 1955 - July 15, 2016
LaRene Joi Farmer was born on May 29, 1955 in the town of Landes de Bussac, France. She and her twin sister were born in an Army hospital while their father was stationed in France serving in the United States Army Medical Corp. She lived the first year of her new life in the town of Angouleme, France. At the age of one she moved to Salem, Oregon, then to Seattle, WA, and then back to Oregon to live in Lake Oswego and Lake Grove, OR. In 1970 her family moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois where she graduated from Glenbard South High School in 1973. She went on to study fashion design and interior decorating in college.
While living in Illinois she met the love of her life, Gerald Gary Farmer. They married on August 26, 1978 in Wheaton, Illinois. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Keizer/ Salem area. While living in Salem, LaRene and Gary were blessed with two children, Zeb and Shannon. In 1986 she and her family moved to Kent, Washington to help with the family’s graphics and sign business.
In 1994 LaRene and Gary purchased a hardware store in Silverton, Oregon where they moved there to raise their two children. Eventually the hardware business was closed and LaRene and her husband concentrated on building their graphic and sign business, Custom Graphic Services.
LaRene was actively involved with the family business for many years. She was also a person of many talents. Quilting, sewing, toll painting, and interior decorating were some of her hobbies. There was not a craft that she didn’t like doing.
LaRene loved children and always enjoyed being around them. She spent the majority of her adult life teaching children’s Sunday School at church. One of her life highlights was spending time in Kenya on a short term mission trip teaching the children there about God’s Love.
LaRene Joi Farmer brought ‘Joi’ to everyone she met for the 61 years of her life. After six years of struggling with the effects of Early Onset Alzheimer’s her Lord and Savior brought her home on July 15, 2016 to be healed. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Gary, son Zeb and daughter Shannon (Bruce) and grandson Brandon. LaRene is also survived by her parents James and Patricia DeLapp, brothers Lari (Debbie), Timm (Laurie), sisters LaDene (Bob), Jana (Chris) and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to especially thank the wonderful staff at the Hawthorne House of Salem for their gracious and loving care that they provided during the final months of LaRene’s life. Their love and kindness will never be forgotten.
There will be a celebration of LaRene’s life on Saturday, August 13th at 2:30 pm at Friendsview Springbrook Meadows Community Center located at 4061 Hayes St., Newberg, Oregon 97132.
