Yoko Whitfield, 69 passed away Monday, July 18th at her home in Salem. She was born in Tenryu-Shi, Shizuoka, Japan on April 6, 1947. She came to the U. S. in 1976.
She was employed as a CNA for the State of Oregon. She married Tim Whitfield in 1988. She studied hard and was proud to have obtained her U. S. citizenship in 1997. She enjoyed needlepoint and crocheting and had a great love of gardening and animals. She bowled with the Petticoat Pikers for nearly 20 years. She will be remembered as a woman with a strong work ethic and one who always believed in the good in people. She never gave up on the ones she loved.
Yoko is preceded in death by her parents, Takeo and Kuniko Suzuki and her brother Toru Suzuki. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Tim Whitfield; her daughter Miki Margraf; grandsons Robert and Brian; great grandsons Austin and Johnathan; her sister Kumiko and brother Minoru. A Celebration of Life is planned for 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 2nd at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. Memorial donations in Yoko’s name may be directed to Willamette Valley Humane Society at 4246 Turner Road SE, Salem, OR 97317.
