Robert L. Johnson Sr.

October 15, 1944 - July 21, 2016


Robert Lawrence Johnson was born on October 15, 1944 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Lillian Murphy Johnson and George Leon Johnson.  The family relocated to New Jersey where Robert attended school and graduated from Clifford J. Scott High School in East Orange, New Jersey in 1964.
Robert, along with a group of his friends joined the Air Force and they completed basic training together. Later he was deployed to Viet Nam.  Following his Viet Nam tour Robert received an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1968.
After serving his country, Robert relocated to California and embarked upon a career with the Los Angeles County Office of the District Attorney where he retired from his position as a Procurement Manager in 1993.
Upon retirement, he relocated to Oregon Roseburg and later Salem where he devoted his time to working with athletes involved with Special Olympics.  Robert also enjoyed golf and fishing.
On July 21, 2016 Robert was called from labor to reward and is now resting in the arms of Jesus.
Robert was preceded in death by his father George Johnson, brother Steven Johnson Doris, brother-in-love Nathaniel Gainer and nephew Christopher Gainer. 
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Cynthia Johnson, sons Robert Johnson Jr. Kyrina, Steven Johnson, daughters, Kim Cox and Kelly Wiggins, mother Lillian Johnson, sister Jacqueline Gainer, grandchildren Lyzander Johnson, Jonathan and Jordan Wiggins, great-granddaughter Jasmine Wiggins, sisters-in-love Jennie Parker and Paula Poma Keith and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

I will always remember you Robert as a man that truly cared for the needs of his family, one who always tried his best to resolve any problems to make things better and a man that loved his children very much and was very proud of their accomplishments.
