Ellen Jeanne Emerick - Allard

Ellen Jeanne Emerick-Allard died peacefully on June 20, 2016 after 94 years full of life. She was born Ellen Jeanne Hunter on July 2, 1921 to Harry and Lydia Hunter of Fresno, California. She had two lovely sisters: Meta Irene Munson of Lodi, California and Verna Lee Wilson of Santa Rosa, California.
Her father moved the family to Reno, Nevada during the Great Depression to find work with the Nevada Telephone Company. Jeanne graduated from Reno High School in 1939 and attended junior college in California.
After school, she worked in retail clothing in San Francisco, California. She married Richard Brooks Emerick on July 23, 1942 in the Chapel at Grace Cathedral Church in San Francisco California. Eventually, they made their home in Sparks, Nevada where they raised two sons, Hunter B. Emerick and Douglas A. Emerick.
Jeanne was a long time member of Sparks United Methodist Church where she was baptized in 1965. She retired from Nevada Telephone Company after working many years as a customer service representative. Her marriage to Richard continued until his death in November, 1987. Jeanne was active in her church and enjoyed quilting, painting with water colors and calligraphy. She was also involved with the Gold and Silver Club of Nevada Telephone retirees and with her high school classmates, the ‘39ers. At her 50th high school reunion, she was reacquainted with Thomas Allard. They married in Sparks, Nevada on August 1, 1992.
Tom and Jeanne lived in Reno, Nevada. They enjoyed travelling and over the years visited Alaska, Hawaii, Italy, England, Canada, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. As Tom’s wife, Jeanne was mother to his family which included Peter J. Allard, Michelle Currie, Jacqueline C. Allard and Suzanne E. Christian. Tom died in October of 2006. Her youngest son, Doug, died from complications from a stroke in November, 2006.
After Tom’s death, Jeanne moved into Sky Peaks Retirement Village in Reno, Nevada and was an active resident. In 2011, Jeanne moved to Salem, Oregon to be near her son and daughter in law, Jill Mahoney Emerick, and their family. While in Salem, Jeanne resided at Hidden Lakes Retirement Community with her sister Lee Wilson and Jeri Mahoney, Jill’s mother. Jeanne leaves behind one sister, one son and daughter in law, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren, four step-children, together with their families, and many other family members and friends.
She was an elegant and loving woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service for Jeanne will be held at Sparks United Methodist Church, 1231 Pyramid Way, Sparks, Nevada on August 13, 2016 at 11 a.m. A light luncheon will follow in the Social Hall at the Church.
