June M. Thomas
June 1, 1935 - July 3, 2016
June M. Thomas was born on June 1, 1935 in Cass Lake, MN to Sam and Martha Johnson. She was raised on a farm outside of Cass Lake with her five sisters and one brother.
After graduating from high school, June moved to Oregon, following her older sisters, where she worked for the telephone company. She met Harley C. Thomas at a dance in Portland and they married on June 15, 1956. They celebrated their first born son, Scot, a few years later, and then welcomed a second son, Ron, in 1961.
The family moved to Ontario, Oregon and then on to Klamath Falls, Oregon for Harley's job, and then eventually settled in Molalla, Oregon in 1968. They bought a beautiful house and property across from the Molalla River where they lived for many years. They also enjoyed being a part of a camping group who shared many great memories together.
June loved her family and enjoyed having parties and camping with them. She was also very active in the United Methodist Church in Molalla.
June was a stay-at-home mom for several years when her boys were young, then she went to work for the Molalla School District where she loved her job at Molalla Elementary helping kids learn to read.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Martha Johnson, sister Mabel Johnson, brother Robert Johnson, sisters Edith Kling, Evelyn Butcher, Mae Bunker, and husband Harley Thomas.
She is survived by her son Scot Thomas (wife Julie), Salem, OR; son Ron Thomas, Molalla, OR; Sister Mary Larson (husband Peter), Portland, OR; four grandchildren, Colton Thomas, Claire Thomas, Haley Thomas, and Ethan Thomas, and six nephews and one niece and many great-nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 11th at 2:00 PM at the Molalla United Methodist Church, 111 Mathias Rd, Molalla, Oregon. A private family burial at Willamette National Cemetery will take place at 10:00 AM Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in June's name to The American Cancer Society/Molalla Relay for Life- 0330 SW Curry St. Portland, Oregon 97239.
June's family would like to thank her caregivers for the last four years at Forget Me Not Elder Care for taking such great care of her. Also thank you to the nursing staff at Salem Hospital Neuro/Trama Care Unit for the excellent care during her most recent stay.
