Dixie M. Ped-Schimelpfenig
April 21, 1931 - June 21, 2016
Dixie Marie Davenport was the first born child to Jesse and Vera Davenport on April 21, 1931 in Syracuse Kansas. Soon thereafter the family moved to the Willamette Valley where Dixie lived in various communities as her father worked as a carpenter and in the timber industry. She spent her teenage years in the Turner area and graduated from Turner High School. After graduation she went to work for the State of Oregon as a stenographer. Shortly after she met Emil Ped at church. They married May 7, 1950 in Turner Oregon. She moved to Salem to live in the home Emil built and spent 50 years of marriage. She was a homemaker and the mother of 5 children. Their family grew as the children married; Bill and LaDonna Ped, Linda and Ben Pfau, Betty and Tim Olsen, Ron and Heather Ped, and Pam and Ed Woods. Dixie had 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. After Emil, a believer in Jesus Christ passed on to heaven in 2001, Dixie met and married Alfred Schimelpfenig in 2006. They spent 7 years of marriage before Alfred was called home to heaven. Dixie dedicated her life to her Lord in service to her church and more importantly teaching her children, who taught their children, who are teaching their children to pray, love Jesus and His Word. What a legacy! We will all see you in Heaven, Mom!
A celebration of Dixie’s life will be 1:00pm Monday, June 27, 2016 at the Peoples, Church 4500 Lancaster Dr. NE.
