Rae Howe

May 26, 1956 - April 3, 2016

Rae was born May 26, 1956 to her parents, Ernie and Edna Lucky Howe in Eugene, OR.  She was the middle daughter of two sisters.  They were a Marine Corps family and traveled frequently.  As a result Rae attended new schools often though finished her college degree in Phoenix, AZ.  The US Army was her choice for military service from 1974 to 1978.   She was instrumental in the family business, SAJE Inc., a Christmas tree farming and manufacturing equipment business.  Retirement was on the horizon for her from the State of Oregon, Workers Compensation Division where she was in management.

The feel, texture and weight of books were a favorite of Rae’s.  When e-readers became available she rapidly converted but always missed a “real” book.  Her dad introduced her to golf though she was only a fair-weather golfer they shared many rounds on the course.  Home improvement projects, landscaping and close friends were always dear to her heart but NEVER cooking.

Rae is survived by her son Tyler Herigstad of Salem, OR; mother Edna (Lucky) Cowdry of Why, AZ; her sister Dee Voytilla of Waikloloa, HI; step-mother Alice Howe of Yuma AZ; a large extended family including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and hand-picked family.  She is preceded in death by her son Zacharay; father Ernie; sister Dusti.

There will be an informal Celebration of Life/Gathering at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, 605 Commercial St. SE, Salem OR, on April 17, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Please join us in remembering Rae and bring stories and memories to share. The family is grateful for the condolences and asks you to consider donating to a charity of your own choice in lieu of flowers.

Being computer illiterate, I'm not sure whether just a signature is normal or ... Anywho, I always loved being near Rae and will miss her in a way I don't know how to express. An exotic beauty that seemed to always know what she wanted  and quietly surrounded herself in class. Babbling.

I am Danny, a cousin of Rae's.  When we were young we were a close and fun loving family thanks to the three sisters, our mothers.  I believe we all carried that light heartedness and free spirit to the various parts of the earth we all ventured off to.  With Rae's passing that point of light has gone out, but left many other points of light in those she touched with the sparkle of her life.  Some may wonder, who is that man, and how he know??  I am the eldest in the family, and remember the old days,  and some things never change.  Love you all, and miss you Rae.

I will miss my beautiful cousin very much.  Rae has always been such a no nonsense kind of person, and yet so much fun to be with. She never missed an opportunity to be at family gatherings, and we all loved her so much. It was at one of those gatherings she introduced me to wine, and I was so looking forward to sharing new wines with her when she came to Yuma and spend her winters at the condo.
Rae, you've left giant prints in my heart, and I will look forward to the day we meet on the other side.  I will forever love you for being such a great cousin.
