Dorothy Katherine Hatzenbihler

July 15, 1923 - March 14, 2016

Dorothy passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 14th.  She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, caring friend and prayerful servant of the Lord.  Dorothy was lucky at cards and lucky at love.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  She was born in Siren, Wisconsin to Andrew G. and Hartina Peterson as the second youngest of 12 children.  Her childhood was spent skating the frozen ponds with her siblings.
As a young woman she worked in Minneapolis as a secretary.  She married her first husband Delton J. Engstrom in 1946.  They had a daughter and two sons.  They moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1953.  She was widowed in 1965.
She married Jim Hatzenbihler in 1969 and he brought his son to the family.  For the next 47 years they raised and nurtured their family in Corvallis, Eugene, and Salem.  Jim retired in 1996 and they moved to Garibaldi, Oregon to enjoy the coastal lifestyle.  They enjoyed camping, fishing, card playing, bingo and time with friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 10 brothers and sisters, son Brian, infant son Michael and Son in law David Andrews.  She is survived by her husband Jim, sister Esther, daughter Pamela, son Bryan, daughters in law Denise and Tatyana, 8 grand children and 15 great grand children.
The family would like to thank the staff at Premier Care Homes and 1st Call Home Health for the excellent care they provided Dorothy.
Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, March 22nd at 11am with viewing starting at 10am at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Salem, Oregon.  Luncheon to follow.  Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
