Lorrine B. Walker
May 26, 1930 - December 20, 2015
Lorrine Walker passed away surrounded by friends and family on December 20th, 2015 after a brief illness at the age of 85. She had lived in Salem, Oregon for the past 20 years.
Lorrine Walker was born on May 26, 1930 in Upland, Ca. She was the second of three daughters of Enos and Opal Brandt. She lived in Ontario, CA while growing up. After high school she enrolled in college. During this time she started working at General Electric and met Wendell Walker, whom she married on May 23, 1952. They had a house built in Alta Loma, Ca., where they moved in 1953. Lorrine then became a housewife, and she and Wendell raised three sons in that house. After Wendell retired they moved to Salem, Oregon to be near their sons who had all moved to the Pacific Northwest.
Lorrine and Wendell were very active in church from a young age. As a married couple, they were members of Ontario First Baptist Church and then helped to start a new church, Sierra Vista Baptist Church, near their house in Alta Loma. When they moved to Salem they became members of Calvary Baptist Church, where in the past 20 years Lorrine helped with hospitality, the Food Bank and the Van Goers. She seemed to be at the church nearly every day helping in some way.
Lorrine and Wendell were always active. They enjoyed doing activities together, such as: 10-day-long hiking adventures with their sons in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, as well as day hikes closer to home; week-long water skiing trips to Lake Mead and Lake Mojave, as well as many day trips to nearby lakes; weekend snow skiing trips to Mammoth Mountain; and, after retirement, months-long camping trips with their fifth-wheel trailer all over the continental US and Alaska. They also enjoyed simple things like going to local co-ed softball games with their kids and grandkids, where the umpires knew them by name. Lorrine enjoyed crocheting, reading, going on walks, cruises, church trips and going out to lunch and dinner with her numerous church friends, her sons and her grandchildren.
Lorrine is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Wendell, and her two sisters, Doris and Violet. Lorrine is survived by her three sons and their wives: Paul and Shal; Fred and Carol; and Mark and Dale. Lorrine also has seven grandchildren: Alaina, Kristen, (Jennie and her husband Michael), Justin, Cristopher, Derek and Denise (and her husband Eric).
There will be a Celebration of Life for Lorrine on Thursday, January 7th at 1pm at Calvary Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1230 Liberty St. SE, Salem, OR 97302. Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service is assisting the family.
